About The Inn
History
Welcome

Runaway Hill Inn has been a fixture on Harbour Island for decades.
When the current owner renovated the Inn after purchasing it in
2004, special attention was paid to maintaining the charm and
character of the Main House and its storied history.

The main house of Runaway Hill Inn was an estate home built in
the 1940s by a gentleman from Long Island, New York named
McElroy. In 1960 the property was sold to the Patterson sisters
from New Zealand who converted the house to an Inn which they
opened in 1961. The Inn was operated successfully
until the mid 1970s.

In 1977 the inn was closed for about four years, and then was
purchase by Maxine and William Miller. Roderica, and Berinice
Thompson, Glenroy Aranha, all native "Brilanders, and Carol and
Roger Becht from the U..S. After its purchase many renovations had
begun, and the property opened as Runaway Hill Club on February
17, 1982.

Now, the Inn has been renovated again, a state of the art reverse
osmosis water purification system that brings fresh mountain
water to all the rooms of the hotel has been added, and is the only
system of its kind on Harbour Island.
